Description
Min Shwe Hlwar Mining & Industry Company (currently registered as Min Shwe Hlwar Gems Co.) works closely with the Directorate of Defence Industries, the Burma Army’s weapons production division.
The company’s managing director is Lieutenant General Hla Min, formerly defense minister in Thein Sein’s government. Hla Min became involved in Min Shwe Hlwar while still serving as defence minister.
The company is carrying out large scale coal mining in the Na Nan area of Nam Ma, northern Shan State, in a 549-acre concession area granted for 25 years to the Directorate of Defence Industries.
